Four Person Zoo Trip

Mom and dad took me an A to the zoo. A slept almost the entire time so I think she barely counts, but mom and dad seemed to think it was a big deal for all four of us to have a successful outing together.I had a very good time. The elephants were in their splash pool. The keepers were feeding the sea lions just as we arrived. The tortoises were very active as we walked by. It was pretty fun.

Now I have 2 pet elephants at home. They have their own books and spend most of the day sitting on the ottoman in the livingroom.

2 Weeks Old

I'm now 2 weeks old (as of 9min ago). What have I learned in this time?

I've learned how important a good meal of warm fresh milk is. I love it so much I'll often eat with a passion that leads to drinking more quickly than I can swallow.

I've learned how lovely a long nap is. Even better than just a long nap is a nap while curled up on the belly of my mom or dad.

I've learned how much my sister likes to play with me. She likes holding me for short periods of time and putting her finger in my hand so I can hold it. Best of all, she is very good at saying comforting words while stroking my back, petting my head, or rubbing my belly.

Realizations of a Second Time Mom

As A reaches 2 weeks of age, I find myself reflecting on my eldest daughter's maturity. At the hospital after spending the night caring for A, S was heavy to pick up and strong to wrestle. Now I look at her and see a small child with a precocious opinion about what and how to do everything. She wants to wear panties. She wants to make cupcakes. She wants to hold A. And she doesn't want help.

My first born is no longer my little baby.

Cupcakes

I was very interested in making cupcakes this week so on Friday mom and I went to the store for some funfetti cake mix and frosting. Then mom took out the food coloring and we experimented with mixing yellow and blue, red and blue, and red and yellow. I'm very proud of the colorful array of cupcakes we ended up with.

1.5 Week Check-Up

I just had my third check-up today. My first was at the hospital followed up by my pediatrician when I was 4 days old. Today's check-up was exactly 7 days after that previous check-up and I showed everyone there how my favorite two activities are eating and sleeping.

Through undressing me, changing my diaper, and weighing me I slept... well... like a baby.

Then they weighed me and found that in 7 days I gained 11 ounces! I am now just shy of 9 lbs (8lbs 15oz to be exact).

I'm good at this baby stuff.

Visit from Grandma

Grandma G visited for the last week. I had a great time baking, cooking, playing, and tackling her. Last night she returned to her home many miles away and it was a little disappointing this morning when I woke up to see just mom and dad home.

Gravida Status: No Longer Pregnant

She was born July 12 at 11:40pm (no triskaidekaphobic birthdays for her). She weighed in at 8lbs 6oz and 22 inches in length.

She are now just 11.5hrs shy of being 1 week old. I'm reveling in being able to twist, turn, and bend and A is happily eating, sleeping, and pooping.

Gravida Status: Zeno's Pregnancy

Today is my due date and I now believe in the Dichotomy Paradox. No mater how close I get to the due date, I can't seem to reach the end. In addition, I am moving slower with each passing day!

Parade and Fireworks

I had a great time on the 4th of July! Mom and dad took me to a parade in the morning where I saw lots of firetrucks, cars, and veterans. My favorite moments were when the clown came by, being handed a sucker by one of the campaign floats (what are the implications of that?) and seeing a kid dunked at one of the carnival games.

Then, last night, mom and dad took me to see the fireworks. We discussed the fireworks for over a week at school so I was excited, despite being warned that they would be loud and bright. It was well past my bed time, and we watched a bunch that were being shot from a mile away or so, and I was loosing interest pretty quickly. Then the display started up right in front of us! It was quite exciting.

I really like the ones that shot up high right above our heads! I also surprised everyone by liking the loud ones. But if you ask me directly, I'll tell you, "the green ones were my favorite. And the purple ones were my favorite. And the red ones were my favorite."

Born on the 4th of July??

I spent the 3rd cleaning house with a (very energetic and productive) girlfriend of mine. Good thing too because I woke up at 2 experiencing some pretty strong contractions. This was after a few weeks of very few contractions. I was uncomfortable (and concerned) enough to get up and make sure that all the bags were packed.

But today is July 5th and the baby is still baking.

Gravida Status: Home and Waiting

Had another doctor's visit yesterday and all is well. Maternity leave has begun and the nesting tasks are now my primary focus.

Time to clean the basement and organize photos!
